Emergency Services

  • Transjugular Intrahepatic Portasytemic Stent Shunt (TIPSS) insertion for uncontrolled or recurrent variceal haemorrhage.

Semi-elective Inpatient Transfers

  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP)
  • Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosytemic Stent Shunt (TIPSS) insertion for cases of diuretic intolerant or resistant ascites

Outpatient Services

  • Endoscopy (See Patient Services - Endoscopy Table 2)
    • Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR): Upper & lower gastrointestinal tract
    • Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP)
    • Endoscopic stenting (Including oesophagaeal, enteral & colonic)
    • Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS): Upper GI & Hepato-pancreato-biliary
    • Enteral tube insertion (including PEJ & PEXACT)
    • HALO therapy (Radiofrequency ablation of dysplastic Barrett’s)
    • TIPSS and endotherapy for varices
    • Trimodal imaging (including autofluorescence (AFI) & narrow band imaging(NBI))
    • Wireless capsule endoscopy
  • Sub-specialty clinics (See Patient Services - Outpatient Clinic)
    • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
    • Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs)
    • Regional Hepatology Clinic

A duty specialist registrar in Gastroenterology is available for support and advice 24-hours a day. If you wish to discuss a case for transfer please ring the main switchboard (0151-706-2000) and ask the operator to contact the on-call Gastroenterology Specialist Registrar.

If your patient is accepted for transfer we kindly request that you organise an MRSA screen prior to transfer and expect that repatriation will be facilitated if required.
