The Gastroenterology department is based at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Prescot Street, Liverpool, L7 8XP. The main switchboard can be contacted on 0151 706 2000.

There are two dedicated Gastroenterology inpatient wards (5X & 5Y) open to visitors between 14:00-16:00 and 18:00-20:00.
The majority of endoscopic procedures take place in the Gastroenterology Unit.

The Mersey School of Endoscopy (MSE) is one of three National Endoscopy Training Centres in England. It delivers a comprehensive programme of JAG compliant courses for health professionals throughout the year.

There are a variety of bus services which operate from the surrounding areas and drop off at the hospital or within walking distance.

- Trains - The hospital is approximately 1-mile from Lime Street Station which serves the main city line. Taxis are readily available from the station. Merseytravel can provide details of bus services linking local train stations and the hospital.
- Coaches - The National Express Coach Station is less than 1-mile away from the hospital.
- Cars - The hospital is well signposted throughout the city and is located on a main road. A drop off point is situated at the front of the hospital but there is no parking available.
From the M62 - the hospital is approximately 3-miles from the M62 and is signposted.
From the Mersey Tunnels:
Queensway Tunnel - Turn left at the roundabout at the tunnel exit
Immediately bear right into the filter lane and turn right at the traffic lights
Follow signs for the hospital and visitor/disabled parking
Kingsway Tunnel - Follow the exit slip road onto the main carriageway keeping in the left hand lane
At the traffic lights bear left and follow signs for the hospital and visitor/disabled parking
- Car Parking - Parking on the main hospital site is limited to staff and permit holders.
Patients and visitors can park in the nearby secure QPark facility which is situated less than a 5-minute walk from the hospital and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The vehicle entrance to QPark is on Epworth Street (off Erskine Street) and to access this, you must follow the signposts through the one way system onto Epworth Street. A pedestrian exit is available on the Prescot Road side of the car park.
- Disabled Car Parking and Shuttle Bus Facility - Disabled car parking is provided at the Q-Park multi-storey. Disabled spaces are available on the entry level and are well marked and signposted. Staff are available to provide assistance to patients and visitors as required.
Q-Park has been assessed by the Trust’s Patient Council and Liverpool City Council Disability Discrimination Act officials fto ensure it is DDA compliant. The car park has a designated pick up zone and improved entrance and exit areas including better crossing points outside the car park.
A shuttle bus service will run between Q-Park and the hospital buildings to provide transport assistance to anyone requiring it. The bus runs on request so if the bus is not there as you arrive, please speak to security or car park staff will radio for the bus for a piack up within a few minutes.
There is a height restriction of 2.1 metres at Q-Park so if you have a vehicle above this height please contact the Trust’s Security Team on 0151-706-2228 to make alternative arrangements.
From 22 October 2009, the Q-Park multi-storey car park, opposite the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, increased their car parking charges as below:
